Japanese rose

This shrub and flower (Kerria japonica) does not look like a typical rose, but it is in the rose family. It grows well in Portland with springtime color. To identify, notice the leaf shape and margins (vein patterns), the flower shape and color, and shrubby form. I ask people to look for three clues to help identify a plant. One is simply not enough!
