Big leaf maple

Acer macrophyllum, buds in the spring, with hanging flower clusters that will hold the samara seeds. Did you know that you could make maple syrup with some other maple species besides the sugar maple? It takes 40 gallons of sugar maple sap boiled down to make one gallon of syrup, a higher ratio for other maples.
