We ordered a bunch of seeds from a FedCo Catalog and I was impressed. We had three varieties or more of sunflowers including this deep red flower. I have yet to learn which ones are edible or better wildlife food, though they seem to all be swarming with bees.

If you stop for long enough, breath slow enough, look closely enough... you may watch it grow.

Fava: to cover or not to cover?
Plant fava in the fall and eat the beans by spring. There are two types of fava, edible and forage cover crop. The beans are a lot of work: pick, shell, boil, re-shell, re-cook, add garlic and olive oil. They are the main ingredient for one of my favorite Mediterranean dishes, ful mudammes.

Move over, plants coming through!
We picked up our starts a couple weeks ago from my friend Angie's greenhouse. The plants filled the trunk... Any more and someone would be walking home! I am fortunate that the baby puts up with my plant addiction.
